Show Me Your Zoo - Lincoln Park

The Lincoln Park Zoo is located in one of the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. While I live in Racine, Wisconsin this is one of my favourite zoos and is only about 45 minutes away. The special things about the zoo are that it is this beautiful park space in the city and the zoo is free to the public. (Click on photos to view them larger)
The zoo was created in 1868 and there lots of beautiful, original buildings throughout the zoo. Most house animals, but a few are cafes.

One of the first things you see when you enter the park is a huge lake where you can rent boats...including Swan paddle boats!

There are the traditional animals like lions & tigers & bears (oh my!) but also unique exhibits like...hissing cockroaches. YUCK!

Tropical fish.

Or African Paddlebills.

I have a strange fascination with camels.

My eldest daughter loves the giraffes, lemurs & otters.

I particularly love the old sculptures drinking water fountains throughout the zoo.

My 18 month old son really laughed at the wallabys.

This tortoise was very interesting to watch him watching the fish.
I always love the Lion Tamarins! They have such unique little faces...and boy are they quick!

There is just so much to see...there is even a greenhouse conservatory. Sometime I'll have to show you the beautiful & unique flowers from there!
